Body Building

OK--So I've started the summer semester at massage school...this is the semester I've set aside to concentrate on kinesiology, which is the class everyone has told me horror stories about. I've been in it a week, and yes, I'm a little cross-eyed, staring at bones and muscles and getting all the origins, insertions and actions down.

The fun/challenging/immensely helpful learning part of class is building the muscles with clay as we learn them. (We even have a little spaghetti-maker playdoh-like machine to make the stringy skinny tendons.)

We put on 15 muscles last week, and that was just on the dorsal foot and the lower leg. This is where you'll get to watch our model grow. I'll try to post a few pics every week. It'll be much better than BodyWorlds...no real body was frozen to make this happen.

The MB stands for Mei/Brandi--Brandi, my partner, is a former art student and she's very meticulous. We're working on the standing leg. You see, we only build on one half of the skeleton--the night class does the other side (they are JK); and as you will observe, the night students are not as, hmmm...precise, about where they place their muscles; I think they're a little tired or stressed out at 7-10pm. We're in there from 10am to 1pm, and we're more awake and perky. So I think this model is going to end up looking like a freak of nature and a little lop-sided!

We've yet to come up with a good name for our model; we're pretty sure it's gonna be a women, at least one half of her is. I'm thinking LoLa would be a good one--short for LOp-sided LAdy.

Isn't that a beautiful tibialis posterior -->

I'm also doing the student clinic this semester starting in June. That should be fun. I'll be massaging the public! Whoa!

Next week it'll be the thigh and glutes!
