This was the thermometer reading today at 6:50 am. Notice that it is minus 0. That's a bit colder than just plain ol' zero--Ha! But I'm not complaining; it was -10 yesterday, -30 with the wind chill. And we got a fleeting, tantalizing glimpse of brilliant color in the eastern sky that lasted for all of 5 minutes. Now it's steel grey and snowing. But hey, that's Chicago in February! Tomorrow is the 18th anniversary of when we moved here. Matt was 4, Nate was 2. It was 70 degrees the morning we left San Diego, and 20 below when we got here (leaving SD is just more proof of how crazy we are). Matt was so excited to see all the "sand" piled up at O'Hare..."No, baby," I remember crying, "that's not sand!"
